Description dive spot:
The Coreolanus was a war fishing boat, so a converted civilian ship, which took over several tasks in the British Navy. As an example the ship was equipped as a mine-clearer and was involved among other communication tasks in various operations during the Second World War.
The Coreolanus ran on May 5, 1945 on a mine that ripped open the ship on the starboard side just before the bow. The hole is still recognizable today. There is no precise information what mission the ship lead to the Yugoslav coast and also about victim numbers. From Rovinj, the center of the diving industry in Istria, it takes 45 minutes to the wreck on a quick dive boat.
The buoy line is now attached to the foredeck. Mostly the visibility is good and the current weak, you can already make a small overall impression of the wreck on the way down. Since the Coreolanus is not very large and lies in a moderate depth, you also have time as an air diver to see the complete ship. Nitrox is still highly recommended. You should not miss the two guns on the bow, but especially the two galleries and of course the rear with the screw and the rudder. The superstructures with the gun amidships are worth a detailed and cozy look. In some places (except for the previously mentioned galleries) you should be able to penetrate deeper into the wreck, which is not very recommendable.
The hole caused by the mine, as well as the rudder and screw are worthwhile only if the visibility around the wreck and towards the seabed is good. Without Nitrox not recommended, as even a short trip down costs a lot of bottom time which you can spend far more meaningful up the wreck.
